Are your soybeans NON-GMO?

We are proud to say that we use non-genetically modified soybeans!

What does GMO mean?

A genetically modified organism (GMO) or genetically engineered organism (GEO) is an organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques. We like to call these "Frankenbeans"

Where do you get your beans from?

We take pride in offering you only fresh crop, premium Grade A beans, grown in western Ontario.

Do any of your products contain MSG?

Definitely not. We are committed to being MSG (monosodium glutamate) free!

My soup package says "check for stones" - what does this mean?

Because beans grow in the ground, sometimes there will be a grey stone that gets through our bean growers and the Bean Ladies' rigorous inspection. When you are rinsing your beans, it will likely stand out.

Are your soybeans nut free?

Our soybeans are roasted in a facility where peanuts and tree nuts are also roasted, for that reason we cannot say that they are completely nut-free

Are your products gluten free?

The majority of our products are gluten free including our soups, side dishes and selected soybeans.

How long do I soak my beans for?

When making some of our soups or side dishes, soaking beans in cold water overnight or 7 hours is sufficient. You can also do a hot quick soak. Bring beans to a rapid boil in lots of water for 3 minutes, remove from heat, cover then let stand for 1 hour. Voila!

What is the shelf life?

Soybeans - we package our soybeans snacks with 7 months shelf life
Soups and Side Dishes - we package our soups and side dishes with 12 months shelf life

Can you freeze soybeans?

Yes. If you find that they are reaching their best before date, you can place them in the freezer to help them stay fresh.

Can I alter a Bean Ladies recipe?

Of course! We use our family recipes for each soup or side dish, but you know your family best. If you don’t want something so spicy, you can always put in less than the entire spice package too!

I found you at a craft show, where can I get more?

We have many retail locations in Ontario or you can order online here.

Is it true that men shouldn't eat soybeans?

Complete myth. Everything consumed in moderation is good for all folks. If your husband eats a bag of soybeans a day, maybe look at expanding his menu options!

Can soybeans help me with my hot flashes?

Yes. One handful (1/4 cup) consumed every other day regularly will help to reduce hot flashes in menopausal women.

What are the health benefits of eating soybeans?

There are many health benefits to eating soybeans!

    • They are high in protein and fibre;
  • They are a source of Omega-3 fatty acids;
  • They are an excellent source of iron, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and zinc.
